“Great culture” This is such a buzz phrase in our creative industry when companies describe themselves to clients, prospects and applicants. But what does that even mean? Does a great culture mean you have a lot of fun projects, good work/life balance, cool workspace and interesting people? Does it mean you have competitive benefits and perks? I believe Springbox has defined it well through one of our core values. “We are accountable to all of our partners, from coworkers to clients”.
That word “accountable” carries pretty heavy weight with it – that is to say that we truly CARE about the goals, interests and desires of our partners. This value manifests itself in many ways at Springbox. As coworkers, we really truly are each other’s friends and supporters - from spending lazy Saturdays together at dog parks to watching a coworker perform in a play or in their band, we support each other in all that we do.
But this extends further out to our client network as well, both within the walls of Springbox and outside in the everyday world. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network hosted a 5K race in May 2015 and for the second year in a row, Springbox created a team of over 20 members, raising over $6,000, that ran together and celebrated with a team brunch afterwards. Springboxers have attended countless University of Texas Football games and even went on a tour together of the athletic facilities last November, and our Tradewinds team is planning a trip to Dallas in May to watch Jimmy Buffet and eat cheeseburgers in paradise together.
Most recently I was on a girls trip with my mom to Paris and found myself looking for daytime activities. I was considering going on a bike tour and was told by a friend that Fat Tire was an absolute MUST. This company has been a Springbox client since mid-2014 and is a phenomenal example of our partner relationship – our engagement started with logo work, has grown into social media strategy, and we have so much respect for each other that we both continue to find ways to work together. The Fat Tire Team at Springbox talked about shared success and excitement about the company so I booked my Paris Bike Tour and set off for Paris.
The tour took us around various Paris monuments including the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Place de la Concorde, and many more. It was such a fun, different and interactive way to get an overview of the amazing city. Our guides were friendly and incredibly helpful – even gave us recommendations on where to grab a bite afterwards!
This small anecdote speaks to the Springbox value system in such a profound way. We are not a “set-it-and-forget-it” place. We think of our clients as part of our culture and want to participate in their activities just as much as we want to deliver great work to them. THAT is what makes a great culture: being invested and accountable in the lives of the people around you…and having fun while doing it!
